Mad Hatters

Townscape Heritage
It's been a busy month as we prepare for our Alston Shops Past exhibition, with the help of Alastair Robertson and Peter Wilkinson, and also finalise the details of some training courses for later this year. We are holding two FREE Dry Stone Walling for Beginners courses, which are being taught by the very talented, award winning local craftsman, Laurie Lambeth.

In November we will be providing a Conservation Masonry Contractors Level 3 course. This will be a 5 day course from the Scottish Lime Centre Trust, who delivered the very successful C1 course last year. This course will be held here in Alston and we already have 9 contractors who are very keen to achieve this valuable qualification.

Mad Hatters is almost complete! We are delighted to see the new shopfront, steps and railings which have really made a difference to the bottom of Front Street. The last bit of work is the fitting of a new traditional awning, which is due to be installed next week.

Louise and Matt of the Cane Workshop held a lovely opening event at the end of May. The whole building looks really great and the shop is full of gorgeous hand made things and local crafts.
